Observations:
I was expecting more out of Erwin. Sanderson had called his name out in several interviews and I really expected that he would step up tonight. He didn’t.
For the most part, the frosh really looked great. Ruth is a stud and dominated Brown. Macchiaroli wasn’t spectacular but did what was needed to eke a 5-3 win out over Steadman. Vallimont looked content to work his way to a one point win over Kemerer but Jake had other ideas taking Valimont down in the last ten seconds for a one point win of his own. In a bit of a surprise, Cyler Sanderson just toyed with David Taylor in the opening period of their bout. Sanderson took Taylor to his back three times in the first period and cruised to an easy win. Once Taylor got past the first period he did show considerable skills while on the mat – but Cyler had easy pickings from the neutral position and score at will on Taylor.
Pataky looked great in getting a tech fall in a little over three minutes. Wade also had an easy time at heavyweight. Lynch’s win over Pisani in an injury default was one of those that wouldn’t happen in a normal dual meet. Pisani was just having cramping problems and in a normal meet would have been able to gut it out but Cael through the towel in on him during the second period just to make sure he didn’t do any serious damage to himself.
In his exhibition bout, Wright looked to be in mid season form as he rolled to an easy 8-2 win.
I have video of Cyler Sanderson’s dominant first period over David Taylor and will post it shortly.
