UNIVERSITY PARK — David Erwin lumbered around most of last season with a sling around his right shoulder, another painful memory of a year gone awry barely after it started.

Erwin figured things had to go better this year, his senior season on Penn State’s wrestling team.

The sling entered storage. The new coach liked his attitude and approach to wrestling.
