Finally, a juicy dual meet, something Penn State needs after lopsided home victories against Northwestern, Michigan and Michigan State.
And it’s hard to argue with the timing of this one.
Penn State ends its regular season tonight at Minnesota. The fifth-ranked Golden Gophers (11-5, 6-1 Big Ten) have serious oomph in the form of seven ranked wrestlers, so postseason thoughts drifted through minds during Thursday’s flight to Minneapolis.
The Big Ten Championships are 15 days away. Some Nittany Lions, including 125-pounder Brad Pataky and 157-pounder Cyler Sanderson, haven’t received tests since last month’s trip to Iowa.
What the schedule lacked in compelling home meets is negated by its practicality. Penn State (13-5-1, 5-2), which also has seven ranked wrestlers, views tonight as the ideal postseason primer.
