HERSHEY — Pitt, Maryland and West Virginia prepared to dangle wrestling scholarships before Frank Martellotti.
He wasn’t for sale. Martellotti wanted to wrested at Penn State, regardless of a financial offer or guaranteed job.
Martellotti will walk-on to coach Cael Sanderson’s team next season. Calling him a walk-on seems strange considering his credentials.
The Shady Side Academy senior is looking for a bookend PIAA Class AA title this weekend, a gold medal to accompany the one he earned as a freshman 103-pounder in 2007. He took a step toward becoming a two-timer by defeating Tamaqua’s Kolby Maschack 9-7 Thursday at Giant Center. Martellotti also owns two third-place medals.
