Two Ohioans advance to Junior World wrestling trials

By Tim Warsinskey, The Plain Dealer

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Nearly 14 months ago, David Taylor won his fourth Ohio high school state wrestling title at St. Paris Graham and headed off to Penn State as one of the nation’s top recruits.

Brecksville’s Jeremy Johnson, meanwhile, won his first state championship and matriculated to Ohio University in relative anonymity.

Sunday night at the FILA Junior Freestyle Nationals, however, Johnson did Taylor one better. Johnson was the heavyweight national runner-up, and Taylor finished third at 163 pounds. Both earned berths in the Junior World Team Trials next month in Colorado Springs, Colo.

I’m really disappointed I didn’t win … Once I lost, the only thing that could save the tournament for me was to face the kid who beat me, and luckily enough, I wrestled him and beat him.
