He’s not very flashy.
He’s the kind of kid who often answers questions with a “Yes sir” or “No ma’am,” a farm kid who’s not afraid of a good day’s work and results that might not be seen right away.
So when Chance Marsteller wins a wrestling match — and he almost always does — he’s not much for theatrics. It’s a raised arm and a hand shake and a quick walk to the next match, wherever it may be.
When you’re an eighth grader who’s wrestled against college kids and set goals for the Olympic Games only two years away, you don’t overreact to the small stuff. But this was a big deal.
Marsteller, who will be a freshman at Kennard-Dale this fall, was wrestling in a national tournament. There were wrestlers from all over the country, places such as Hawaii and Alaska and almost every other state you could imagine. And Martseller was beyond nervous as the spotlight beamed down on the big-time tournament.
