This kid looks like a real stud. He’ll wrestle for the state title Sunday against James Green of Willingboro. Green defeated Stinson two weeks ago to win a Regional title but Stinson returned the favor in a District match last weekend. Fittingly, the state championship will be on the line for the rubber match in what could be a classic.

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — David Erwin doesn’t pay attention to rankings.
The Penn State University 184-pound senior wrestler and Graham High School graduate couldn’t tell you he’s ranked No. 12 in the nation in latest USA Today/National Wrestling Coaches Association Poll.
He only cares about what takes place on the mat.
“Every match is just one step closer,” he said. “I’m trying to reach the goals I’ve had since I came to college.”
Erwin had rarely been healthy during his time for 13th-ranked Penn State.
Cowburn closing in on school all-time win record
TOM STOREY’S name has recently come up again as Dirk Cowburn begins to close in on the all-time wrestling win record at Coudersport High School.
The Falcon senior and two-time state Class AA champion at 152 pounds improved to 121-8 over the past weekend with a 4-0 mark at the Jersey Shore Duals — all four wins coming in pins under 40 seconds. That moved him to within six of trying the school mark of 127 held by current Falcon assistant coach Aaron Wright (1997-2000), who took from record from Storey, Coudy’s first state champion who graduated in 1989 with 99 wins.

A five-day span during winter break saw three wrestlers leave the Penn State wrestling team as coach Cael Sanderson’s intense approach begins to test his wrestlers.
Sanderson confirmed Dec. 30 that Bubba Jenkins and Luke Macchiaroli had left the team. Following the team’s Jan. 3 dual meet at Lock Haven, he announced that Colby Pisani had also departed. He said he did not know if the departures were a result of his intense coaching style.
