Phenom Davis gets a submission win to finish UFC 112 undercard – Cagewriter – UFC Blog – Yahoo! Sports
Former Penn State wrestler Phil Davis (pictured above) rolled to another dominant win in downing Alexander Gustafsson. Davis, 25, scored the victory via anaconda choke at 4:55 of the first round.
Phil Davis remains undefeated
- Hot prospect Phil Davis (6-0) remained undefeated, beating Alexander Gustafsson (9-1) via anaconda choke submission at 4:55 of the first round.
Phil Davis produced his second impressive performance since joining the UFC, submitting Alexander Gustafsson with five seconds remaining in round one of their light-heavyweight contest. Defeat was the first of Gustafsson’s career, while Davis improves to 6-0.
As expected, Davis went in search of the takedown to nullify the striking of Gustafsson, and the second time the Swede hit the deck proved to be the last. Davis transitioned from an arm triangle to an anaconda choke to force the tap at 4.55 of round one.

Aaron Anspach considers Phil Davis one of his best friends.
They talk about once a week, and when Davis returns to Happy Valley, he bunks at Anspach’s place. Though Anspach considers himself Davis’ good friend, the former Nittany Lion heavyweight may not watch his former Penn State teammate’s second Ultimate Fighting Championship bout, against Alexander Gustafsson in UFC 112, this Saturday.
It’s not that their friendship has met a bitter end.
Rather, the problem is one out of Anspach’s control — Davis’ fight is an undercard event and may not be featured on the pay-per-view program.

Phil Davis will step back inside the cage Saturday night in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, for his second fight in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
Davis, a Harrisburg native and a national wrestling champion at Penn State in 2008, is 5-0 as a mixed martial arts fighter. He signed with the UFC late last year and then defeated Scranton’s Brian Stann by unanimous decision at UFC 109 in February.
