CDT Overseeing the future of wrestling
Guy Cipriano
UNIVERSITY PARK — With top-40 music playing from the speakers and clocks counting down from 48 minutes, the Lorenzo Wrestling Complex brims with activity nearly two months after Penn State finished its official season.
In one corner, an Olympic gold medalist and emerging heavyweight struggle moving each other. In an adjacent circle, a two-time NCAA champion pushes around a sophomore hoping to reach similar heights.
On the other side of the complex, another former NCAA champ trains with a teenager whose life revolves around wrestling. Behind the glass walls separating the wrestling mats and weight room, a man with big hopes for the Nittany Lion Wrestling Club’s newest endeavor and freestyle wrestling at Penn State watches a rehabbing heavyweight.

Collegian: Ex-Lion looks to stay perfect
By Brendan Monahan
Collegian Staff Writer
Aaron Anspach considers Phil Davis one of his best friends.
They talk about once a week, and when Davis returns to Happy Valley, he bunks at Anspach’s place. Though Anspach considers himself Davis’ good friend, the former Nittany Lion heavyweight may not watch his former Penn State teammate’s second Ultimate Fighting Championship bout, against Alexander Gustafsson in UFC 112, this Saturday.
It’s not that their friendship has met a bitter end.
Rather, the problem is one out of Anspach’s control — Davis’ fight is an undercard event and may not be featured on the pay-per-view program.
Lineups announced for Big Ten/Big 12 wrestling exhibition
Aaron Anspach is the only Penn Stater who will be in the lineup for the match that will be held as an exhibition in conjunction with the NCAAs. Anspach gets a most difficult matchup in Olympian Steve Mocco of Oklahoma State.

CDT: Molinaro moves up a weight class

Penn State sophomore Frank Molinaro will begin the season at 149 pounds after finishing eighth at 141 in the NCAA Championships last March.
Coach Cael Sanderson said Tuesday that sophomore Frank Molinaro, who placed eighth at 141 pounds during last season’s NCAA Championships, will compete at 149.
Molinaro is taking the weight Bubba Jenkins wrestled the past two seasons. Jenkins, who is academically ineligible this semester, will likely redshirt during 2009-10.
