Des Moines Register picks PSU as “sleeper team”
Not to necessarily win the championship (they admit Iowa is a prohibitive favorite) but one to crack the top four.
Personally, I think it’s a little bit of Cael Sanderson left over hero worship at work here.
With Iowa expected to win this thing, it’s really hard to call someone a sleeper team, because Iowa State has been the top contender to the Hawks, but based on the draws, I think Penn State has a real shot at getting a trophy. I like Brad Pataky’s draw at 125, same with Dan Vallimont’s and Cyler Sanderson’s draws. If Frank Molinaro picks off Kyle Ruschell and Lance Palmer, the Nittany Lions can be in position to have picked up some big points. I don’t think they’re a threat to the top position, but if just a few things go right, they’ll be in position for the top four.

College wrestling has turned into a high-tech game with many Division I coaches and wrestlers scanning hours of DVDs before dual meets and tournaments.
At Penn State, the sport still carries primitive characteristics.
The Nittany Lions didn’t bring a traveling video library or multiple pieces of expensive equipment to Omaha., Neb., where the NCAA Championships begin at noon Thursday.
If coach Cael Sanderson had his way, wrestling Web sites would be blocked from laptops. Instead of studying opponents and brackets, the Nittany Lions are being instructed to worry about themselves this week.

The six Nittany Lion grapplers earned the opportunity to wrestle for a national title by leading the Lions to a strong performance at the Big Ten championships March 6-7.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Brad Pataky had stitches below his eye. Frank Molinaro’s face was bleeding. Cyler Sanderson wrestled with a bandage around an entire leg.
Physically, Penn State left the Big Ten Championships battered, although their aches appeared mild compared to Michigan State’s Nick Palmieri, who competed with an eye swollen shut.
Mentally, the Nittany Lions appear fine.
The tournament yielded mixed results for Penn State, which went 17-18 in individual bouts and finished fifth in the two-day event. The Nittany Lions, who placed seventh against a stronger field last year, currently have six NCAA qualifiers.
