Two months after leaving the Penn State wrestling team, Bubba Jenkins has yet to choose a new school.
Though Jenkins said he is still weighing his options, the 2008 NCAA 149-pound runner-up has gained interest from a number of schools, including Arizona State, Old Dominion, Maryland, Nebraska and Iowa State.
Jenkins visited Arizona State because he said the school had been recruiting him since he was a sophomore in high school and he wanted to repay the loyalty. Brian Stith, an Arizona State assistant coach, wrestled at Frank W. Cox High School, Jenkins’s; former school, and was also Jenkins’s; ex-coach.

A five-day span during winter break saw three wrestlers leave the Penn State wrestling team as coach Cael Sanderson’s intense approach begins to test his wrestlers.
Sanderson confirmed Dec. 30 that Bubba Jenkins and Luke Macchiaroli had left the team. Following the team’s Jan. 3 dual meet at Lock Haven, he announced that Colby Pisani had also departed. He said he did not know if the departures were a result of his intense coaching style.

Bubba Jenkins will make his final run at becoming a NCAA champion somewhere other than Penn State. Jenkins, a former NCAA finalist with one year of eligibility remaining, learned shortly before the semester break from coach Cael Sanderson that he would be receiving a release from his scholarship.
The decision was made by Penn State’s coaching staff, something Jenkins and Sanderson confirmed Thursday.“It was definitely forced upon me,” Jenkins said. “I respect Cael’s decision and I know he’s trying to do what’s good for the team and the program. I’m not mad at him. It’s just part of the game.”

Head coach Cael Sanderson confirmed Wednesday that redshirting senior Bubba Jenkins has left the Penn State wrestling team.
Jenkins redshirted the first half the 2009-10 because of academic ineligibility. In three seasons as a Nittany Lion, Jenkins amassed a 73-21 record.
“Bubba won’t be here next semester,” Sanderson said in a phone conversation. “I don’t know [about his future] for sure. We’re taking requests for releases and that kind of thing, but he won’t be here.”

True freshman David Taylor jogged back and forth from the end of the blue and white mat to the wall that read “Penn State Wrestling.”
As Taylor approached the wall another time, he jumped and kicked off it — attempting what looked like a karate move on the immovable object. Warming up next to Taylor was Brad Pataky, who focused straight ahead, seemingly unaware of any karate moves or other people jogging beside him.
