CDT: Sandersons shift to next season
Guy Cipriano
Whether he was ordering bacon and eggs or visiting his barber, the older brother of Penn State’s celebrated first-year wrestling coach couldn’t escape the chatter.
“Everywhere I would go, whether it was getting breakfast or a haircut, people were saying they can’t wait for 2010-11,” associate head coach Cody Sanderson said. “People are excited about the recruits that are going to be in our lineup. But we left it at that. We owed it to the program to keep our focus on 2009-10.”
Such was the conundrum facing the start of Cael Sanderson’s tenure.

Collegian: Weight management keeps Lions healthy
by Jocelyn Syrstad
Collegian Staff Writer
The night before a match, Frank Molinaro would be in the sauna, frantically riding a bike to sweat off five or six pounds.
The redshirt sophomore, who wrestled at 141 pounds last season, would cut an average of 13-14 pounds every week. Once he got down to scratch weight, the pounds he had just lost would come back, and he’d repeat the strenuous procedure.
And it showed in his health, his mother said. A critical care nurse, Michele Molinaro saw her son come down with mono, strep that got into his blood, a virus that created ulcerations in his throat and a fever of 102 degrees.

PPG: Wrestling icon leans on Penn State’s Paterno for input
“We’;re not trying to get in the Top 10. … We’re trying to win it all.”
By Ron Musselman, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Cael Sanderson was a college wrestling legend at Iowa State.
He never lost a match, going 159-0 en route to capturing four NCAA titles. He also won a freestyle gold medal at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece.
In April, Penn State pulled off one of the biggest shockers in college wrestling history, hiring Sanderson away from his coaching position at his alma mater.

UNIVERSITY PARK — The new coach brought along his big and little brothers, one of his closest friends and heralded recruits who initially committed elsewhere.
Throw it all together, and Penn State’s cur rent wrestlers operate in a serene environment.
Instead of being quizzed about last year’s struggles, they field questions about coach Cael Sanderson, the four-time NCAA champion and Olympic gold medalist who replaced Troy Sunderland in April.
Collegian: Recruits follow for new coach

Cael Sanderson grew up fishing.
When the Penn State wrestling team’s coach goes on vacations, it’s still one of his favorite things to do.
Sanderson has also come to be an excellent angler in the game of recruiting, and he’ll need to continue his success Wednesday with the beginning of the early signing period.
