Mirror: Nittany Lions use the fall to earn big victory
By Todd Irwin,tirwin@altoonamirror.com
UNIVERSITY PARK – He had a 9-0 major decision over Northwestern’s Andrew Nadhir, but Penn State’s fourth-ranked 149-pounder, Frank Molinaro, felt kind of left out Friday night at Rec Hall.
“Yeah, seriously,” Molinaro said, “I’ve got to get a pin. This is getting crazy. I only have one this year.”
Molinaro was envious because the 11th-ranked Nittany Lions recorded three pins – rare for a college dual meet – against the Wildcats, who are 0-4 in the Big Ten Conference after the graduation of Hodge Trophy winner Jake Herbert, to go with two major decision and a forfeit in a 37-10 rout before 3,841 fans as a winter storm was blowing through outside.

Six points were essentially given to the Penn State wrestling team before Friday’s dual meet with Northwestern even began.
The No. 11 Nittany Lions (11-5-1, 3-2 Big Ten) made sure to add many more points as they defeated Northwestern 37-10 in front of nearly 4,000 fans in Rec Hall.

When 3,841 fans brave a raging snowstorm to attend a sporting event, most would agree they deserve to be rewarded with a dominating, entertaining win by the home team.
That’s exactly what those fans got Friday night in Rec Hall as No. 11 Penn State (11-5-1, 3-2 Big Ten) won seven of 10 bouts, scoring at least one bonus point in each, to dispatch Northwestern Wildcats (5-9-1, 0-4), 37-10.
“I think, overall, we’;re wrestling with a good energy. That’;s a big deal for us, especially this time of the year. It’;s a time to be excited,” Sanderson said.

UNIVERSITY PARK — Frank Molinaro encountered his own horrendous storm to end January, facing the three highest-ranked 149-pounders in consecutive matches.
The wrestling blizzard served a purpose. It made one of Penn State’s best wrestlers more assertive.
Molinaro dismantled Northwestern’s only ranked wrestler, one of many signs of domination during the Nittany Lions’ 37-10 victory Friday at Rec Hall.

Molinaro downs Nadhir at 149 as nearly 4,000 fans brave Nor’easter to cheer on Lions
STATE COLLEGE, Pa.; February 5, 2010 – The 11th-ranked Penn State wrestling team used a furious offensive onslaught to down visiting Northwestern 37-10 in a Big Ten wrestling match-up. Nearly 4,000 Nittany Lion fans braved a Nor’easter and a looming blizzard to fill Rec Hall as the Nittany Lions won seven of ten bouts, getting three pins, a forfeit, a technical fall and two majors in the process.
Collegian: Weight management keeps Lions healthy

The night before a match, Frank Molinaro would be in the sauna, frantically riding a bike to sweat off five or six pounds.
The redshirt sophomore, who wrestled at 141 pounds last season, would cut an average of 13-14 pounds every week. Once he got down to scratch weight, the pounds he had just lost would come back, and he’d repeat the strenuous procedure.
And it showed in his health, his mother said. A critical care nurse, Michele Molinaro saw her son come down with mono, strep that got into his blood, a virus that created ulcerations in his throat and a fever of 102 degrees.
