Sun-Gazette: Lions, Lynch win on Senior Night
By Andy Elder, For The Sun-Gazette
As senior nights go, this one was perfect, both literally and figuratively.
The No. 10 Penn State wrestling team 13-5-1, 5-2 Big Ten won seven of 10 bouts to turn away Michigan State 8-6-1, 2-4, 26-12, Friday night as 4,408 fans helped the Nittany Lions celebrate Senior Night.
The four seniors in the lineup – 141-pounder Adam Lynch, 157-pounder Cyler Sanderson, 165-pounder Dan Vallimont and 184-pounder David Erwin – all won their final bouts in Rec Hall. A perfect 4-0.
And, for the entire team, its fourth win in a row capped and undefeated home slate. A perfect 5-0.

UNIVERSITY PARK — The pep band blasted music as Cyler Sanderson sprinted off the mat.
Penn State’s other wrestlers sprung from their seats. The public address announcer summoned fans for a push-up contest. A dance team prepared to perform.
The scene during Sunday’s intermission against Michigan showed why wrestling meets at Rec Hall are creating a buzz again.
An explosive start, which included Sanderson’s first-period pin of Dave Johnson at 157 pounds, helped the Nittany Lions engage 4,511 fans during a 29-10 thumping of Michigan.

BWI: Lion wrestlers top Michigan
Andy Elder
BlueWhiteIllustrated.com Assistant Editor
As the No. 11 Penn State wrestling team’s dual meet season winds to a close, two things are becoming abundantly clear: the Nittany Lions are clearly better than a lot of people expected and they are in far better shape than almost all of their opponents.
Those two things were evident Sunday as the Nittany Lions (12-5-1, 4-2 Big Ten) mauled Michigan (4-12, 0-5), 29-10, in front of 4,511 Rec Hall fans.
Penn State won seven of 10 bouts and piled up a 29-17 advantage in takedowns.
BSD: New Year, New Coach, Same Result
by psuwresfan
The Penn State wrestling team was in action twice this weekend and managed a weekend split.
The good news is the beat Illinois for the first time in 50+ years. The bad news, frankly, they wrestled like crap.
They stormed out to a surprising 18-0 lead on Friday against Illinois before coasting to a 24-11 final. Sunday, they looked like they never got off the bus and got beat, 21-14. Was the score better than last year? Sure. Was the wrestling better? Definitely not.
CDT: Buckeyes too much for PSU
From CDT staff reports
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Defeating Ohio State has turned into a difficult task for the Penn State wrestling team.
The Nittany Lions dropped six bouts, including both matchups involving top-10 wrestlers, as they fell to the third-ranked Buckeyes 21-14 before 3,000 fans Sunday at St. John Arena. The loss was Penn State’s fourth straight against Ohio State, which finished second at last year’s NCAA Championships.
The meet was closer than last season’s 33-7 shellacking at Rec Hall, but the Nittany Lions (9-4-1, 1-1 Big Ten) squandered multiple opportunities to upset a Buckeye team missing 2008 NCAA champion Mike Pucillo at 184 pounds.
