HBG Patriot: Penn State’s Dan Vallimont moves on to NCAA wrestling finals

OMAHA, Neb. — Penn State 165-pounder Dan Vallimont endured two long years of strife and doubt to get another shot at securing a berth in the NCAA finals.
Friday night in the Qwest Center he finally cashed in.
Vallimont headlined a group of three Nittany Lion All-Americans at the 2010 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships. Sophomore 149-pounder Frank Molinaro fell in his bid for a finals berth. And senior 157-pounder Cyler Sanderson rebounded from a quarterfinal loss to win in the All-America round.

Nittany Lion Wrestlers Continue Strong Showing at NCAAs as all six of Penn State’s wrestlers pick up at least two wins at event.
OMAHA, Neb.; March 19, 2010 – The Penn State Nittany Lion wrestling team, under the guidance of head coach Cael Sanderson, had another strong session at the 2010 NCAA Wresting Championships. Sophomore Frank Molinaro (Barnegat, N.J.) and senior Dan Vallimont (Lake Hopatcong, N.J.) each became two-time All-Americans with quarterfinal wins. With only six wrestlers, the Nittany Lions find themselves in eighth place with 33.0 points.

Penn State wrestlers were on the offensive Thursday, as they had a strong showing during the first day of the NCAA championships.
Four Nittany Lion wrestlers finished undefeated after two sessions of the tournament and will compete in today's quarterfinal matchups.
The six Lion grapplers who competed in the tournament went 5-1 during Thursday afternoon's opening-round bouts and followed that with an impressive performance in the round of 16.

OMAHA, Neb. — Before heading to Omaha for the 2010 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships, Penn State coach Cael Sanderson insisted his six-man gang could be a factor in the team race.
After the first day at the Qwest Center, it looks like he’s right.
With four wrestlers in the quarterfinals — 125-pounder Brad Pataky, 149-pounder Frank Molinaro, 157-pounder Cyler Sanderson and 165-pounder Dan Vallimont — and 184-pounder Dave Erwin and heavyweight Cameron Wade alive in the consolations, Penn State is tied with three other teams for 10th place. Central Michigan, Lehigh and Virginia also have 17 points.

OMAHA, Neb. – The Penn State Nittany Lion wrestling team, under the guidance of head coach Cael Sanderson, had an outstanding first day of the 2010 NCAA Wrestling Championships at the Qwest Center in Omaha, Nebraska. The Nittany Lions advanced four wrestlers to the national quarterfinals and, despite having only six grapplers competing, find themselves in tenth place with all six grapplers still alive in the tournament.

Wade loses in first round, Erwin in the second. Both wrestle later in the consolations. Wade won his consolation match 1-0. Erwin will wrestle tomorrow morning.
