The Sentinel Online: Alton, Peppelman win 3rd crowns at PIAA wrestling
Dylan Alton used a seventh-place finish his freshman year to motivate him to reach greater heights. Three years later, it’s safe to say the strategy worked.
Alton, a Central Mountain senior and the nation’s top-ranked 152-pound wrestler, won his third consecutive state gold medal with an 11-4 decision over LaSalle’s Shane Springer for the Class AAA title on Saturday night at the PIAA Wrestling championships.
Alton and Central Dauphin senior Marshall Peppelman joined an exclusive club when each won a third career title at the Giant Center. Only 45 wrestlers in Pennsylvania history have won that many crowns, and of that group, nine are four-time champions.

Eric Hess couldn’t imagine a more perfect way to end his high school career.
Hess, a Benton senior, took on two-time state champion Dirk Cowburn of Coudersport in the spotlight match of the Class AA finals Saturday at the PIAA Wrestling Championships. He held on for a 1-0 victory at 160 pounds for his second career gold medal.
Hess helped Benton claim the team title with 93 points, then was voted the tournament’s outstanding wrestler to top off a dramatic afternoon at the Giant Center.

Altons get through to AAA finals
HERSHEY, Pa. (AP) — The field for the finals is set at the PIAA wrestling championships.
Central Dauphin’s Marshall Peppelman and Central Mountain’s Dylan Alton need one more win for their third career titles. Peppelman won by forfeit to get to the Class AAA finals tonight.
Alton faced his toughest match yet in beating Northampton’s Austin Sommer at 152 pounds, yet still wasn’t seriously challenged in a 10-6 decision.
Alton’s equally formidable twin brother, Andrew, advanced to the final at 145 after pinning Middletown’s Bo Candelaria in 3:34.
