Dapper Dan Wrestling Classic: Team USA tops Pennsylvania, 30-13

Matthew Cunningham got his chance to compete in the Dapper Dan Wrestling Classic Saturday night at Pitt’s Fitzgerald Field House. But things didn’t go well for the Shady Side Academy senior and his Pennsylvania teammates.The United States All-Stars dominated the match with wins in nine of the 13 weight classes, en route to a surprisingly easy, 30-13 victory against the Pennsylvania All-Stars.

MaxPreps: Few upsets among nationally ranked wrestlers at state finals
The Wrestling USA national high school rankings held up well through the state finals, with only a handful of top-ranked wrestlers suffering upsets.

Texas is known for its football, New York is known for its basketball and in Pennsylvania, the state is known for its wrestling.
Of the top 42 wrestlers in 14 weight classes ranked by Wrestling USA in mid-February, Pennsylvania had 10 of them, including five ranked No. 1 in their weight class. Following the conclusion of the state championships, four finished with state or national championships.

UNIVERSITY PARK — The sights and sounds of last weekends PIAA Class AAA Wrestling Championships captivated one group of interested observers.
Penn State head coach Cael Sanderson and assistants Casey Cunningham and Cody Sanderson made stops in Hershey between the Nittany Lions’ preparations for the NCAA Championships, which begin Thursday in Omaha, Neb. The three-day event represented one of the few major tournaments Cael Sanderson, a four-time undefeated NCAA champion and Olympic gold medalist, had never attended.
