PSU’s Wright getting used to new weight, redshirt season
Guy Cipriano – gciprian@centredaily.com
UNIVERSITY PARK — The week was one of the strangest in Quentin Wright’s wrestling career.
He spent last Friday in Bethlehem, watching Penn State wrestle Lehigh. Two days later, he sat in the Rec Hall bleachers for the first time since high school.
Wright must grow accustomed to the new seating arrangements. Coach Cael Sanderson isn’t wavering on his plan to redshirt the sophomore All- American.

Lions ready to rebound
Guy Cipriano
Penn State spent the day following its season-opening loss at Lehigh by practicing.
Two days later, the Nittany Lions will do something coach Cael Sanderson cherishes.
Any prolonged sulking over Friday’s 23-14 loss ends today when Penn State meets Bloomsburg at Rec Hall. Sanderson welcomes the quick turnaround.
“Yeah, we’re ready,” he said. “We like to compete and that’s what we train year-round for. Those are the fun days.”

The matches didn’t count for anything but experience and there was no team score, but that didn’t prevent 2,400 fans from streaming into Rec Hall on Thursday evening for the unofficial start to the Cael Sanderson Era.
In a departure from years past, when varsity wrestle-offs served to help set the lineup and whet the appetites of Penn State wrestling fans, Sanderson introduced the intrasquad dual meet, where the top two healthy wrestlers at each weight, plus one exhibition bout, squared off in blue and white singlets.

CDT: Intrasquad surprises leave questions for Sanderson
Guy Cipriano – gciprian@centredaily.com
UNIVERSITY PARK — Cael Sanderson spent most of Penn State’s intrasquad meet sitting on a padded chair in a corner away from the Rec Hall mat.
What the new coach witnessed during the first and final bouts Thursday proved confounding.
Justin Ortega bewildered many of the 2,400 fans by opening the meet with a 6-2 victory over David Erwin at 174. True freshman Jake Kemerer then sent the crowd away with more to ponder by edging Dan Vallimont 4-3 in 165.
