Phil Davis will step back inside the cage Saturday night in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, for his second fight in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

Davis, a Harrisburg native and a national wrestling champion at Penn State in 2008, is 5-0 as a mixed martial arts fighter. He signed with the UFC late last year and then defeated Scranton’s Brian Stann by unanimous decision at UFC 109 in February.

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates – The thought that crosses your mind upon seeing Phil Davis for the first time is that it has to be a miserable experience for the guy to buy a suit.

No way he walks into Men’s Warehouse, buys a suit off the rack and runs home with it.

“It’s horrible, man; just horrible,” Davis says. “My neck is thick, my arms are long, my waist is skinny. Nothing’s right.”

With a collegiate wrestling championship in his background, an unbeaten professional record and a nickname of “Mr. Wonderful,” it’s no wonder that Phil Davis entered the UFC surrounded by great expectations.

Suffice it to say, in his first octagon test at UFC 109, the former Penn State All-American passed with flying colors, dominating former WEC light-heayvweight champion Brian Stann in a unanimous decision victory.

I’ve been telling anyone that would listen for the last year about this ridiculously talented former NCAA Champion wrestler out of Penn State that was poised to have a tremendous impact on the future of the UFC’s light heavyweight division, and Davis’ performance at UFC 109 solidified my belief that the undefeated twenty-five year old has all of the tools necessary to go as far as he chooses to in the sport in due time. Davis is one of the few wrestlers with the unique ability to convert a series of takedowns combined with technical top control throughout the course of a bout into of the most fascinating aspects of the game to watch. Top notch wrestling at it’s finest combined with what appears to be an unlimited level of raw fighting talent for the still developing Davis have officially merged to put the ENTIRE light heavyweight division on notice.

Scores were 30-26 twice, and 30-27 for Davis, who improves to 5-0; Stann falls to 8-3.
