UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Cael Sanderson was a college wrestling legend at Iowa State.
He never lost a match, going 159-0 en route to capturing four NCAA titles. He also won a freestyle gold medal at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece.
In April, Penn State pulled off one of the biggest shockers in college wrestling history, hiring Sanderson away from his coaching position at his alma mater.
PPG: Knee injury finishes Sherlock’s season
John Heller/Post-Gazette
Sam Sherlock, a senior at West Mifflin High School who won WPIAL and PIAA titles last season, went out with a season-ending knee injury at the Beast of the East tournament in December.
The high school wrestling season has ended a lot sooner than expected for Sam Sherlock.
“We were hoping the injury wouldn’t keep him out of the postseason tournaments,” West Mifflin coach Tony Salopek said. “He had an MRI last week and the doctor told him it was a torn ACL. He will have surgery this week and will be out for the rest of the season.”

UNIVERSITY PARK — Penn State’s starting lineup, precocious freshmen and recent signees are in.
Other top-25 teams such as Lehigh, Missouri, Virginia, Virginia Teach and Pitt are bringing most of their lineups.
Some of Centre County’s current and past high school stars will be there, too.
And if you listen to Penn State coach Cael Sanderson, it took little selling to construct the massive and intriguing field for Sunday’s Nittany Lion Open at Rec Hall.
